Once there was a shoemaker.He became so poor that he had nothing left to run his family but only enough leather for just one pair of shoes. So, in the evening, he cut out the leather with great care to make the shoes. But he was so disappointed that he left his work on the table to finish in the morning. He was almost in tears. Before he fell asleep, he prayed to God and asked to help him.
ਇੱਕ ਵਾਰ ਇੱਕ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਵਾਲ਼ਾ ਸੀ।
ਉਹ ਇੰਨਾ ਗਰੀਬ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ ਘਰ ਦਾ ਗੁਜ਼ਾਰਾ ਚਲਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਕੁੱਝ ਵੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਬਚਿਆ ਸੀ ਪਰ ਸਿਰਫ਼ ਇੱਕ ਜੁੱਤੀ ਦੇ ਜੋੜੇ ਲਈ ਚਮੜਾ ਬਚਿਆ ਸੀ। ਇਸ ਲਈ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ, ਉਸਨੇ ਬੜੇ ਧਿਆਨ ਨਾਲ਼ ਜੁੱਤੀ ਬਣਾਉਣ ਲਈ ਚਮੜਾ ਕੱਟਿਆ। ਪਰ ਉਹ ਇੰਨਾ ਨਿਰਾਸ਼ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਉਸਨੇ ਆਪਣਾ ਕੰਮ ਸਵੇਰੇ ਖਤਮ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਮੇਜ਼ ਉੱਪਰ ਛੱਡ ਦਿੱਤਾ। ਉਹ ਲੱਗਭਗ ਰੋ ਰਿਹਾ ਸੀ।
ਉਸਨੇ ਸੌਣ ਤੋਂ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ, ਰੱਬ ਅੱਗੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਰਥਨਾ ਕੀਤੀ ਅਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੱਦਦ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਕਿਹਾ।
In the morning, he found a wonderful pair of shoes on his table. He was surprised. He took the shoes in his hands and looked at them closely. They were so neatly made that there was not even one bad stitch on them. The pair of shoes was, indeed a masterpiece.
ਸਵੇਰ ਨੂੰ, ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਨਦਾਰ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਦਾ ਜੋੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਮੇਜ਼ ਤੋਂ ਮਿਲਿਆ। ਉਹ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਸੀ।

Soon after, a customer came into the shop. He liked the shoes so much that he paid more than the usual price. Now the shoemaker was very happy as he had enough money to buy leather for two pairs of shoes.
ਇਸ ਤੋਂ ਛੇਤੀ ਬਾਅਦ, ਇੱਕ ਗਾਹਕ ਦੁਕਾਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਇਆ। ਉਸਨੂੰ ਜੁੱਤੀ ਏਨੀ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਈ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਨੇ ਆਮ ਕੀਮਤ ਨਾਲ਼ੋਂ ਵੱਧ ਰੁਪਏ ਦਿੱਤੇ। ਹੁਣ, ਮੋਚੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਖੁਸ਼ ਸੀ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਿ ਉਸ ਕੋਲ਼ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਦੋ ਜੋੜਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਚਮੜਾ ਖ਼ਰੀਦਣ ਲਈ ਕਾਫ਼ੀ ਰੁਪਏ ਸਨ।
That night, he cut out the leather and the next morning, he found two pairs of beautifully finished shoes. This continued for many nights. Any leather that he cut out in the evening, was beautifully finished by the morning. Soon, the shoemaker became rich.
ਉਸ ਰਾਤ, ਉਸਨੇ ਚਮੜਾ ਕੱਟਿਆ ਅਤੇ ਅਗਲੀ ਸਵੇਰ, ਉਸਨੂੰ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਪੂਰੇ ਕੀਤੇ ਦੋ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਜੋੜੇ ਲੱਭੇ। ਇਹ ਕਈ ਰਾਤਾਂ ਜਾਰੀ ਰਿਹਾ। ਜਿਹੜਾ ਵੀ ਚਮੜਾ ਉਹ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਕੱਟਦਾ, ਉਹ ਸਵੇਰ ਨੂੰ ਬੜੇ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤਰੀਕੇ ਨਾਲ਼ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੁੰਦਾ। ਛੇਤੀ ਹੀ, ਮੋਚੀ ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣ ਗਿਆ।
One evening, the man said to his wife, "Let's stay up tonight to see who is helping us." The woman liked the idea. She lighted a candle. The room was lit by the candle flame.Then they hid themselves in a corner of the room, behind the curtain.
ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਾਮ ਨੂੰ, ਆਦਮੀ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਪਤਨੀ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਹਾ, " ਆਓ ਅੱਜ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ ਉੱਠਕੇ ਦੇਖੀਏ ਕਿ ਕੌਣ ਸਾਡੀੇ ਮੱਦਦ ਕਰ ਰਿਹਾ ਹੈ। ਔਰਤ ਨੂੰ ਵਿਚਾਰ ਪਸੰਦ ਆਇਆ। ਉਸ ਨੇ ਇੱਕ ਮੋਮਬੱਤੀ ਜਗਾਈ। ਕਮਰਾ ਮੋਮਬੱਤੀ ਦੀ ਲਾਟ ਨਾਲ਼ ਰੌਸ਼ਨ ਹੋ ਗਿਆ ਸੀ। ਤਦ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਕਮਰੇ ਦੇ ਇੱਕ ਖੂੰਜੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਪਰਦੇ ਪਿੱਛੇ ਛੁਪਾ ਲਿਆ।
At midnight, two little elves came dancing into the room. Both were wearing old and torn clothes. They sat down at the shoemaker 's table. They began to stitch, sew and hammer so skillfully that the shoemaker was surprised.The elves finished the work and ran away.
ਅੱਧੀ ਰਾਤ ਨੂੰ, ਦੋ ਛੋਟੇ ਐਲਵੀਜ ਡਾਂਸ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਮਰੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਆਏ। ਦੋਨਾਂ ਦੇ ਪੁਰਾਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਫ਼ਟੇ ਹੋਏ ਕੱਪੜੇ ਪਾਏ ਹੋਏ ਸਨ। ਉਹ ਮੋਚੀ ਦੇ ਮੇਜ਼ ਉੱਤੇ ਬੈਠ ਗਏ। ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਨੇ ਇੰਨੇ ਹੁਨਰ ਨਾਲ਼ ਹਥੌੜਾ ਚਲਾਉਣਾ, ਟਾਂਕੇ ਲਾਉਣੇ ਅਤੇ ਸਿਲਾਈ ਕਰਨੇ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਿ ਮੋਚੀ ਵੀ ਹੈਰਾਨ ਸੀ। ਐਲਵੀਜ ਨੇ ਕੰਮ ਖਤਮ ਕੀਤਾ ਅਤੇ ਚਲੇ ਗਏ।
The woman said, " Those little men have made us rich. we should show our gratitude to them for their selfless service.
I will make little shirts, coats, vests, trousers and a pair of socks for them. " " Ok, then I will make two little pairs of shoes for them. " said the shoemaker.
ਔਰਤ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ, " ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਛੋਟੇ ਆਦਮੀਆਂ ਨੇ ਸਾਨੂੰ ਅਮੀਰ ਬਣਾਇਆ ਹੈ। ਸਾਨੂੰ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦਾ ਨਿਰਸੁਆਰਥ ਸੇਵਾ ਲਈ ਧੰਨਵਾਦ ਕਰਨਾ ਚਾਹੀਦਾ ਹੈ। ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਛੋਟੀਆਂ ਕਮੀਜ਼ਾਂ, ਕੋਟ, ਬਨੈਣਾਂ, ਪਜਾਮੇ ਅਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਜੁਰਾਬਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੋੜਾ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗੀ । " "ਠੀਕ ਹੈ, ਤਦ ਮੈਂ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਲਈ ਦੋ ਛੋਟੇ ਜੋੜੇ ਜੁੱਤੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਬਣਾਵਾਂਗਾ। " ਮੋਚੀ ਨੇ ਕਿਹਾ।
When everything was ready, they laid their presents on the table and hid themselves. At midnight, the elves came in. They were delighted to find the gifts. Both the elves dressed themselves in the new clothes. Then, they danced and sang happily-
' Now we are so fine to see,
Graceful, cheerful and thankful are we. '
They danced out of the doors, and did not come any more and the shoemaker lived happily forever.
